Felipe Lourenco
Student and Teacher in Sudbury, ON, Canada
I was born on June 23, 1998 in Ottawa, Ontario. I grew up in a bilingual household of 6 with my parents, older sister and grandparents. As a kid, I played many sports competitively such as hockey, golf, Tae Kwon Do, and ultimate frisbee. I enjoy going on different adventures which eventually led me to moving away from home after high school to attend Laurentian University in Sudbury Ontario during the 2016-2017 academic year. Being that sports were a big part of my life growing up, I enrolled in the Sport and Physical Education program with Concurrent Education. The Concurrent Education program is a good fit for me because I always enjoyed working with kids. As a teenager, I worked as a summer camp counsellor, youth hockey team coach and also as a mentor in a big brother program.
During my bachelors, I was fortunate enough to work with Laurentian’s Men’s Varsity Basketball team as their head student athletic trainer. Along with that position, I completed different hands-on placements for the School of Education such as coaching in the Sudbury Youth Basketball League and as a mentor/tutor for a student with a learning disability through the LDAS (Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury). With my Concurrent Education degree, I also completed an observational placement for 60 hours with a high school gym teacher.
Now in my 4 year, I anticipate graduating this upcoming spring of the year 2020 with an Honours Bachelor of Health and Physical Education and a Certificate of Bilingualism.
