Fernando Cucchietti

Data Viz Expert, Scientist, and Filmmaker in Barcelona, Spain

I lead the data visualization and analytics group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), and I am the Chief Data Officer at Mitiga Solutions.

I started doing research in quantum computing at Los Alamos National Labs (USA) and the Institute of Photonic Sciences (Spain). Later, at BSC I switched to focus on scientific data visualization (data heavy graphical interfaces, images, and videos), and data science applied to industrial problems (in particular, using artificial intelligence).

At Mitiga Solutions I work to extract value from data and help industry experts understand complex information, so they can make better decisions to minimize risk and damage from unforeseen events.

I also do science communication using data visualizations in video documentaries and interactives, and I teach data visualization at the Elisava School of Design.
