Fernando Lería Adán
Student in Bilbao (Spain)
It all began with a thoughtful decision that, over time, evolved into a true passion. My vocation for International Relations stems from a desire to contribute meaningful, rigorous, and creative solutions to complex challenges. My academic interests focus on diplomacy, international cooperation, international economics, humanitarian aid, and the critical analysis of global conflicts.
The Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at the University of Deusto has been the cornerstone in shaping this vocation. In addition, my one-year Erasmus experience at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (University of Göttingen) represented a decisive opening to the world, significantly broadening both my academic and personal perspective.
I have complemented my academic background with a course in International Crisis and Conflict Analysis at the Complutense University of Madrid (2024). Currently, I am continuing my specialization at the LISA Institute, where I am training as an International Economic Analyst.
On a professional level, I completed an internship between August and October 2025 at the Office of International Relations of Alberto Hurtado University in Santiago de Chile. This experience was deeply enriching both professionally and personally, as it allowed me to support international students in their adaptation process in Chile and to advise local students on selecting academic destinations that will undoubtedly shape their lives, much as my own experience in Germany shaped mine.
I am currently undertaking an internship at the Bilbao headquarters of UNICEF Spain from January to March. This experience is allowing me to gain first-hand insight into the vulnerable situations faced by children and young people in different regions of the world, largely shaped by geopolitical dynamics. Witnessing these realities has further strengthened my commitment to fostering sustainable change oriented toward global well-being.
Throughout my academic journey, I have been fortunate to receive several scholarships recognizing my commitment and academic performance. These include the Santander Scholarship, which contributed to financing my studies at the Complutense University of Madrid; the Erasmus+ and Basque Government scholarships, which made my academic stay in Germany possible; and the Confebask Scholarship, which fully funded my formative experience in Chile.
I consider myself an intellectual explorer committed to understanding and transforming global challenges from an ethical and multidisciplinary perspective. I am deeply motivated to contribute to purpose-driven projects where reflection is combined with action. Taking on responsibilities, facing challenges, and generating tangible impact—by putting my education, voice, and actions at the service of others—constitute my immediate goals.
