I am a graduate student of the Legal Research and Information Management Program at Durham College, in Oshawa Ontario.

This was an 8 month long program for graduate students of a previous legal or information science program, or with 2 or 3 years of industry experience.

It is run by extremely knowledgeable professors in the legal research and information management industry. It is a very practical and fun program in which we learned in the first term about: Government and Legal Information, Information Collections and Electronic Licensing, Navigating the Canadian Legal System, Business and Company Research, Information Architecture, and Legal Research in Quebec. In the second term we learned about: Research for Administrative Law, Litigation Support and E-discovery, Knowledge Management and Social Networking , Ethics in Information Services and Research for Criminal and Civil Law. We also completed an applied project which we can showcase to potential employers. In our Legal Research and Information Management course we used programs such as CaseMap, LegisInfo, E-laws, CIPO, LexisNexis, and Westlaw on a regular basis. In our Social Networking Class we also learned how law firms are beginning to see the value of social media in terms of creating and interacting with clients, and I enjoyed creating a blog on WordPress to showcase my applied project on Knowledge Management.

I look forward to a bright future using the legal research and information management skills that Durham College has so skillfully ingrained in me.
