Flanegan Bainon, born to a Murut-Kadazan father and a Chinese mother, is a photographer specialising in storytelling documentaries and conceptual portrait photography. His work is heavily influenced by contemporary Japanese photography art, and he often draws inspiration from Japanese music album covers.

Flanegan completed his Bachelor of Arts in Photography at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. He began his career as a photojournalist for a local news portal in Kota Kinabalu. He then spent several years in Tokyo, Japan, where he worked under the guidance of three Japanese photographers: Takuyuki Saito, Yamazaki Hidefumi, and Umeda Akira.

In 2020, Flanegan returned to his hometown of Kota Kinabalu, where he now focuses on producing photo series about his homeland. His most notable works include the Nunuk Ragang Series and the Gayo Ngaran Series.

His unique blend of cultural heritage and contemporary influences makes his work truly distinctive in the field of photography.
