Felicity Harley-McGowan

Felicity Harley-McGowan is an historian of Late Antique and Medieval art, and has taught in the fields of Greek, Roman, early Christian, Byzantine, Medieval and Renaissance art history. Her work centres on the origins and development of Christian iconography within the visual culture of Roman late antiquity, and extends to the 'survival' of the Classical tradition from late antiquity through to the Italian Renaissance. Alongside her broad teaching and research interests, Felicity has specific expertise in the origins and development of Crucifixion iconography in the late antique period, and a particular passion for the art of early medieval Rome.

Formerly the Gerry Higgins Lecturer in Medieval Art History at The University of Melbourne, Felicity is currently a Lecturer at Yale Divinity School and Research Associate in the Institute for Sacred Music, Yale University.
