The State Emergency Service (SES) is the name used by many of Australia's civil defense organizations to provide support during and after major incidents. Specifically, the service deals with floods, storms, and tsunamis, but can also help with other emergencies, such as vertical rescue and road accident rescue, search for missing persons, and medical treatment. In other situations, the SES may provide a supporting role to other agencies, particularly the police and fire SES is operational 24 hours a day. The SES is set up as a separate organization operating in various Australian states and territories Eight SES organizations are coordinated through the Australian Council of State and Territory Emergency Services (ACSES).
