Hello, I’m Florence. I’m a pediatric speech therapist living in Santa Clara, California. Being in this profession, I met hundreds of patients who struggle with neurological conditions, spinal cord injuries, fractures, burns, cancer and other debilitating illnesses that caused speech impairment among children. My toughest clients are usually the patients who have undergone trauma. It's not that they can't speak, they just do not want to.

Communication is difficult when the other party does not want to reach out to you. I had an autistic patient who suffered from Trichotillomania. He pulled his hair and eyebrows every single minute. He also refuses to get a haircut because of his condition. You'd think he just has a funny haircut, but in reality, his hair-picking habit will lead to severe baldness someday.
