Some photographs are simply seen. Others leave behind a temperature, a silence, or a memory. FOI Studios was created to make the second kind.

My name is Sourish Mukherjee. I am a photographer, filmmaker, visual storyteller, and the founder of FOI Studios in Kolkata, India.

The journey began in 2017 with Face of India. At that time, I was searching for a more meaningful way to photograph Indian faces and stories. As each project became more ambitious, I discovered that my interest went beyond the person standing before my camera. I became fascinated by everything surrounding her—the warmth of tungsten light, the movement of fabric, the character of an old room, the silence between two frames, and the emotion that existed before the shutter was pressed.

Photography gradually became world-building.

Face of India evolved into FOI Studios, an independent Indian creative production house specialising in cinematic boudoir photography, fashion editorials, fine-art photography, visual publishing, filmmaking, and brand production.

We do not begin a project by asking what photographs we should take. We begin by asking what the audience should feel.

Sometimes that feeling becomes a palace bedroom under blue moonlight. Sometimes it becomes a colonial apartment lit by candles, a carefully constructed fashion world, or a natural environment without artificial decoration. From there, we develop the lighting, wardrobe, set design, colour, movement, music, and visual rhythm.

We approach every production like a small film.

FOI Studios is also the creator of FOI Boudoir Magazine, our continuing series of cinematic Indian boudoir, fashion, and fine-art stories. Every issue is developed as an individual visual chapter rather than a collection of unrelated photographs.

For us, boudoir is not simply about revealing the body. It is about revealing presence.

Boudoir can hold confidence and vulnerability in the same frame. It can be quiet, fearless, mysterious, intimate, or powerful. Our work is guided by atmosphere, trust, consent, dignity, and artistic intention. Every person featured in an FOI Studios boudoir production is an adult aged 18 or older at the time of production.

According to our internal records, FOI Studios has collaborated with 429 muses and completed 99 major creative projects. By July 2026, our publishing journey had crossed 2,000 posts and reached a growing community of more than 5,000 members.

FOI Studios operates as an independent, ISO-certified creative production house. Our professional framework supports documented project planning, production management, quality checks, delivery records, privacy, and continual improvement.

By 2026, my personal journey in photography had crossed ten years. Those years included successful productions, failed experiments, difficult lessons, and countless attempts to turn an imagined world into a real photograph.

In 2026, I was honoured with an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts. I see that recognition not as the completion of my journey, but as a responsibility to make the next body of work more honest, ambitious, and meaningful.

Today, FOI.ONE is the official membership home of FOI Studios and FOI Boudoir Magazine. It is a growing private archive where members can discover complete photographic collections, digital magazine issues, cinematic behind-the-scenes films, production breakdowns, visual zines, and selected collector releases.

Our mission is to create and preserve Indian visual stories that can travel globally without losing the emotional character of where they came from.

Our future projects will explore forgotten Indian art, incomplete sculpture, women’s histories, imagined heritage, and the spaces where recorded history ends and artistic interpretation begins. Through photography, films, books, digital worlds, and collectible art, we want to give visual form to stories that history left unfinished.

FOI Studios began in Kolkata, but the dream was never limited to one city.

We are building an Indian visual archive for a global audience—one photograph, one muse, and one carefully created world at a time.
