Reading some other great bios on About.Me, I clearly have to step up my game here on my own Bio. SO here goes...
For the past year, I have been on an amazing journey. Really, this cute little 5 year old curly haired, big brown-eyed boy captured my heart and he won. He taught me that being quirky is okay. In turn, I taught him that having a sense of humor is okay too. He taught me to think outside the box. More so than I thought I did already. I use to manage so many different products and support strategies on how to support them when they come to market. Orchestrated and implemented these support strategies across three geographies with thousands of support engineers. Yet, he was one kid, with three different therapy sessions. Mind boggling how that can suck the life right out of you, rather than the other way around.
Anticipation was key in all situations. Assess the situation, implement an exit strategy on the fly, and quick negotiation skills were utilized with a 5 year old. In Program Management, at least I had a timeline and could assess risk management in my planning and implement a mitigation plan, when necessary. This was entirely different and the mitigation plan changed constantly, almost instantly at times. I was challenged, but a good challenge. I honed in on my super warm sales skills to assist with my negotiation skills. This experience greatly improved my confidence as a speaker. If I can do this, I can do anything!
Collaboration with this cute boy's awesome therapy team was constant. Changing up strategies and implementation was key for him and his progress.
And now, proudly, this cute boy, my sweet boy of 6 years is now graduating out of his therapy services one year later. He was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Dec. 2013. With aggressive therapy at 32 hours a week, he is now right where he should be with his twin sister, hanging out with the cool kids and funny and smart as can be. How can I be so lucky for him to coach me.
