Francesca Pang
Teacher and Artist in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada
I am an Ontario, Canada-based artist-educator.
I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Art from Queen's University in 2015 and with my Bachelor of Education in 2016 for the Intermediate-Senior Visual Art and History, through the Artist in Community Education program.
I am highly interested in interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and the integration of technology in the classroom to enrich learning. As an educator and learner, I have seen, participated and observed the effects of learning about and through the arts, from a primary to intermediate to post-secondary level and am committed to developing and sharing this style of aesthetic education to inspire youth and the community to think positively and creatively. I have worked in a variety of environments: the classroom, art galleries, summer camps, outreach arts programs, and evening programs, from which I have gained experience working with children, adolescents and adults of varying abilities and goals.
As a result of my experiences in the classroom and community, I have developed my personal philosophy of teaching, which encompasses a growth mindset, student-centered learning, positivity and flexibility in a classroom community. I believe learning from both successes as well as failures, builds creative problem solving and critical thinking skills for youth to be resilient in realizing and working towards their dreams. A lesson can be found in every experience and I encourage youth to always seek out those moments of growth.
Peers have described me as hardworking, outgoing and optimistic. These are qualities I utilize to create a positive and safe classroom space where I can understand and better meet my student’s needs and allow them to take risks with their learning. I am committed to my own learning as a professional to continually improve and provide for my students as a role model and resource.
