Franco Ferraina

Philadelphia, PA

Franco Ferraina, an accomplished wrestler at Nazareth Area High School, enjoyed a #3 ranking in Pennsylvania, perennially one of the top states in the country for the sport. Ferraina's other achievements in high school included earning designation as both the District 11 runner-up and, later, champion. He also earned second place honors in the Northeast region, qualified for the state tournament, and won the Bethlehem Holiday Classic competition. During his senior year, Franco Ferraina notched 29 wins with only three losses, and he pinned his opponents nine separate times. Additionally, he won his bouts by at least eight points on seven different occasions.

As a wrestler, Franco Ferraina participated in a number of notable matches. The Morning Call, for instance, which reports on news in Lehigh Valley, tapped him to discuss his team's match in the first round of the 2011 state tournament. After falling behind to Owen J. Roberts High School with only one bout remaining, the pressure fell on Ferraina to lead his team to victory. Needing to record a technical fall or better, he ended up pinning the other wrestler, and Nazareth advanced to the second round by a score of 31-29. Though he expressed his overall disappointment with his team's performance, his dramatic finish helped propel him to designation as the district champion that year.

After graduating high school, Franco Ferraina enrolled in Philadelphia's Drexel University. Currently in his first year, he brings the same tenacity as a wrestler to the Dragons, for which he participates in the 125-pound weight class. Drexel's wrestling team continues to earn a reputation as a squad to be reckoned with: according to WIN Magazine, the Dragons own the number 21-ranked recruiting class for 2012.
