I'm a senior fellow at Columbia University School of the Arts, a correspondent for Wired, and the author most recently of The Art of Immersion: How the digital generation is remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the way we tell stories. I've explored this theme as a keynote speaker at film festivals and marketing conferences worldwide, including ad:tech Sydney, Sheffield Doc/Fest, and the Guardian's Changing Media Summit, as well as in talks at companies ranging from Google to Lucasfilm to Unilever to the BBC. As a member of Columbia's Digital Storytelling Lab, I'm faculty co-leader of a seminar in digital storytelling strategy, presented by the School of the Arts in collaboration with Columbia Business School. Earlier, as a contributing editor at Wired and a contributing writer at Fortune before that, I covered such stories as the making of Avatar, Samsung and the rise of the South Korean techno-state, and the posthumous career of Philip K. Dick in Hollywood. Among my other books are The Agency: William Morris and the Hidden History of Show Business and the national best-seller West of Eden: The End of Innocence at Apple Computer, now available in an updated edition. I currently write for The New York Times, The Milken Institute Review, and strategy + business.
