Currently, we New Yorkers are in the midst of one of the warmest and most humid summer months in latest memory. With close to record highs in the upper 90’s and ridiculous humidity levels, New Yorkers like Frank Camuso are running their air conditioners more than ever before. While the city realizes the heat can often become unbearable, as well as dangerous for children and the elderly especially, they have struggled to properly allocate money within their budgets to keep their people cool. The city has sponsored what they call “cooling centers” – in some neighborhoods these are simply a rented storefront where the city puts in a few Air Conditioners that look like they were part of a PC Richards’ open box special. Otherwise, city officials even recommend those without air conditioning watch a movie or go to the mall – New Yorkers like Frank Camuso are struggling to understand how these facts can really be true.
