Frank Gunderson

Noted musicology professor in Tallahassee FL

Gunderson is the general editor of the Society for Ethnomusicology's academic journal, Ethnomusicology, and the co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the society's new academic journal, Audiovisual Ethnomusicology, through his professional affiliations. He has a co-star in Benjamin Harbert. Gunderson worked as the journal's film, video, and multimedia review editor before becoming general editor, and he also served as a guest editor of the World of Music journal twice.

Over 50 articles and reviews have appeared in journals such as Ethnomusicology, Africa Today, History and Anthropology, Soundings, and African Music.

In addition to audio work, extensive fieldwork in east Africa is credited. Tanzania: Farmer Composers of North West Tanzania, released by Multicultural Media in 1997, is a notable recording from this region. Mashindano! : Competitive Music Performance in East Africa, a book co-edited with Gregory Barz and published in 2000, was also based on their east Africa research. Nyota Press/African Books Collective LTD and Michigan State University Press collaborated on this book.
