surgeon, Volunteer, and Doctor in Canada

Hi, I’m Dr. Frank Nevels a Canadian surgeon with a passion for medicine that reaches beyond borders.

Most of the time, you’ll find me in a hospital here in Canada, where I focus on general, orthopaedic, or trauma surgery. But part of my heart and my work also belongs aboard Mercy Ships—a floating hospital delivering free surgical care to some of the world’s most underserved communities.

For me, surgery isn’t just about procedures or precision. It’s about people. Whether I’m operating in a fully equipped Canadian OR or on the deck of a hospital ship off the coast of Africa, my goal is the same: to restore health, dignity, and hope—one patient at a time.

This space is a place where I share reflections from both worlds the highs and lows of surgery, the faces behind the cases, and what it means to serve with both hands and heart. If you're curious about the human side of healthcare, global outreach, or life as a surgeon trying to make a difference, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for being here.
