Music doesn't just make a talented child but a holistic child, one who lives life with great enjoyment and the fullest understanding. Despite the immense power that music holds, the Philippine education system treats it like the lowest of the low. Why settle for less when you can open your doors to the wider horizon that music presents? "Oh, how I wish I didn't give up music when I was young," "If only I had started learning when I was a child.". Who says you can't start right now?
As a music education major from the University of Santo Tomas, I am trained to teach music for kids, teens, and young adults in a fun and easy way for them to grasp and appreciate the concepts presented. Though these methods are meant for children, they also present great effectiveness when used with adult beginners. Whether young or old, it's never too late to start studying music.
I first began as a church pianist for the Baguio Chinese Baptist Church, where I played hymns and songs for the worship services and accompanied the choir for their choral anthems. I hated music when I was young. The learning process was not fun, and it was stressful. As I grew older, I started enjoying it and found that this is what I love, and I wanted to bring the joy of music to other people. I wanted to give people the fun music experience I didn't have when I was young.
With my newfound mission, I then worked as a pianist for the Tanglaw Singers and voice students at the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary, where I also taught piano lessons and regularly composed new choral works for their yearly MC Choral Festival. Currently, I am the bass section head for the UST Coro Tomasino, an accompanist for church choirs and voice students, and a faculty member for the Apostolic Catholic Church Center for Music Excellence.
Music isn't just notes written on paper and symbols to be identified; it is an experience that has to be heard, played, sung, and felt. Come journey with me as I help you explore, understand, and create the very magic that we call music.
