Fred DuVal is an entrepreneur, civic leader, trusted advisor, and author. He is the founder and President of DuVal and Associates, a firm he established in 2001 to advise clients on government affairs and policy. His firm works with clients across multiple sectors, including healthcare, finance, infrastructure, and energy, helping them navigate complex government regulations and foster relationships with key policymakers in Washington, D.C., and state capitals.
DuVal's career in public service is marked by his work with the Arizona Board of Regents, where he is serving his second term. He was appointed to the Board in 2007, becoming the first individual in Arizona history to be appointed by both Democratic and Republican governors. During his time on the Board, he has focused on improving the state's higher education system, making it more accessible, affordable, and accountable.
In addition to his work with the Arizona Board of Regents, DuVal holds several leadership positions in the private sector. He is a senior advisor to a major law firm, Chairman of a publicly traded mining company, and a director at a national auto dealership group. His experience across the public and private sectors has allowed him to apply his expertise in government affairs to a wide range of industries and contribute to the strategic direction of each organization.
DuVal's political career includes serving as Deputy Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs under the Clinton administration. In this role, he managed relationships between the federal government and state governors. He significantly shaped vital policies, including welfare reform, education funding, and transportation issues. Before his time at the White House, he served as Deputy Chief of Protocol for the United States, overseeing visits from foreign dignitaries and coordinating major international events.
Fred DuVal earned a B.A. from Occidental College and a J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. Born in New Jersey and raised in Tucson, Arizona, he enjoys hiking and has hiked the Grand Canyon every decade for the last five decades. He is married to a former director at Mayo Clinic, and they have two sons. He remains a respected leader with a long history of contributing to his community and country.
