Lester V. Mackenzie

The Reverend Lester V Mackenzie, a native of South Africa and 3rd generation priest, was nurtured in the womb of freedom, the South African Anglican Church during Apartheid in Johannesburg & Cape Town. He matriculated at Diocesan College (Bishops) & attended the University of Cape Town.
Lester is currently the Priest in Charge at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary in Laguna Beach (Diocese of Los Angeles). Lester uses his passion for reconciliation to build bridges of hope between people. He participated in the pilot Hands In Healing initiative of peace and reconciliation started by The Right Reverend J Jon Bruno, Diocesan Bishop of Los Angeles and then sojourned to Virginia Theological Seminary to complete graduate studies in Theology/Divinity. During his time at Seminary, he was chaplain intern at Georgetown University and continued in Clinical Pastoral Education at Good Samaritan Hospital Los Angeles. Lester is a Deputy to the Episcopal General Convention (2012, 2015 & 2018), Chaplain to the General Convention House of Deputies 2015 & 2018, a member on the Commission of Ministry, a Director on the Corporation of the LA Diocese, part of the Diocesan Examining Chaplains and a Volunteer Chaplain with PRISM at the LA County Jail. He was also an Apple Web Developer and designed an iPhone/iPad App for St. Matthew's Parish. As a singer and percussionist Lester uses his South African story and African musical influences to encourage self expression and reconciliation. Lester continues to discern creative expression of faith by making music both in is local community, and with All Saints Music Company
