Long story short, I've spent my entire 23 years of life living in the city. Although I've always been a city girl, I've grown up in the Central Valley of California, also known as dairy land & the agriculture capital of the U.S. of A. So, I've been fortunate to know where my food comes from...I mean, I've been surrounding by it my entire life.
However, I never knew the details that went into producing the food that I eat. The corn fields that towered around my city, I never knew what it took to produce the corn. I never paid attention to how fast it gew in the summer. Until I began working for my uncle's calf ranch. Then all of a sudden the high heels that I wore everyday to my office job were no longer appropriate. I needed shoes that could get muddy, I needed some cowboy boots. So I bought my first pair and after a year of working at the ranch, I've put some miles, mud and cow shit on these boots.
And I've loved every minute of it. I still get to wear high heels, but the world of cowboy boots has been opened to me and I'll never look at America's farmers or food production the same ever again. These people work hard to produce the safest, highest quality of food for you and I to eat. And I am so grateful to them for that.
My blog is a story of things that I learn on the ranch, as well as on other people's farms. It's also a story of my life in the city. I've got one boot in the country and one heel in the city. Join me as I connect the food on the farm to the food on my plate. And don't think that this city girl doesn't talk about fashion, because I do. I love to cook and shop. And I love the smell of cows. Can't wait to share my beautiful life with you!
