As resources cycle through these systems, they create greater net positive outcomes for all participants - in the context of a robust struggle for adaptive success. The same dynamics can and should be applied to economies, at different scales.

The economies of the future are lean, intelligent and dial in win-win social and environmental benefits at each level, in much the same way that smart buildings respond better to need and opportunity, and at lower cost than their predecessors.
