As an educator and artist I make two dimensional objects based on digital and traditional photography, painting, found objects. Most of my work is based on projects involving people: friends, acquaintances, and strangers. When I start a project it is usually based on a concept. The concept serves as a compass. The compass give way to the first images, first drafts, which soon become the barometer by which I determine if I will pursue further, or if it will be another idea that becomes part of a process. The process then becomes the journey.
My role as educator is to understand the flow and direction students need, just as a river in its organic form adapts to the leading banks which help guide it. As a river flows across the surface of the land, usually to the sea, I strive to bring this dynamic energy force into my classrooms creating a positive and lively learning environment.
