Policy Advocacy and Cybersecurity in Philippines
Gabriel Matthew “Gab” Lopez is a dedicated youth leader and public servant currently serving as the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairperson of Barangay Kanluran Kabubuhayan, Nagcarlan, Laguna. At his young age, he champions governance anchored on transparency, accountability, and youth empowerment under his guiding principle, “Bukas na Pamahalaan, Tungo sa Maunlad na Bayan!”
He currently serves as a Legislative Officer at City Government of Calamba, where he contributes to policy development, legislative research, and local governance initiatives. Prior to this, he worked as a Fund Accounting Analyst at Northern Trust, where he developed strong expertise in financial management and operations.
On the national stage, Gab serves as the National Vice Chairperson of the Model SK Network, advocating for institutional reforms, transparency, and capacity-building initiatives for SK officials across the country. He also previously served as Area Coordinator of project YNFORM under CYAN Pilipinas and European Union, promoting digital rights and combating disinformation among Filipino youth.
Further strengthening his leadership in digital governance, he recently completed the Cyber Youth Leadership Course: Digital Bayanihan conducted by the National Cyber Training Institute in partnership with the National Youth Commission, where he was awarded a Gold Medal as one of the Most Outstanding Students of the Pioneering Batch.
Recognized for his leadership, he is an Outstanding Sangguniang Kabataan Awardee (2024) by the DILG Nagcarlan and a Tatak Nagcarlangin Awards (2020) Nominee in the Kabataan sa Mataas na Paaralan category.
Gab continues to inspire the youth through his work in governance, digital rights advocacy, and community development—advancing a vision of a bukas, tapat, at progresibong paggogobyerno para sa isang maunlad na bayan.
