Portable Knife Sharpener
For years, I have sharpened all of my knives by the help of portable knife sharpener, from craft knives to pocket knives to our expensive kitchen knives using a whetstone. Additionally, for outdoorsmen, this packs well to keep hunting and fishing knives at their best
I would not use this on a really good knife. When you use the coarse end you will get metal shavings, so it's not exactly gentle but if you have an inexpensive knife that isn't doing it's job you've really got nothing to lose and it does a good job of getting them quite sharp again. Dull knives are dangerous so if your knives aren't too precious you could do a lot worse than this sharpener.
I have used Arkansas stones for years, since I was a boy. There is a really bad burr on the edge that isn't getting ground of when you pull the knife through this thing, the burr is a good thing when sharpening. This gadget can't get the burr off, so the knife is only part of the way there.
We have been using this sharpener for many years. My husband loves keeping his knives sharp and has used many different styles of sharpeners over the years. We have just ordered 8 more to give as gifts to family members this summer.
Eventually the sharpener made it's way into my kitchen knife drawer and it has found redemption. Not so good on my higher carbon content camping, outdoor, and edc knives, for those I splurged on a Lansky stone sharpening system.
We were going to take in our nice set of JA Henckel knives to a knife-sharpener-person, but my husband found this little gadget and thought, for the price, it was worth a try. Truly a great sharpener, and so easy to use.
Very easy to use and keeps knives sharp and nice. Bought two and I keep one in the garage for those times I need to sharpen pocket knives.
