In spite of Cerebral Palsy and not being able to walk, I have been exposed to the arts since the age of 8. I sang in a choir at church and participated in church plays. I have never let my disability hold me back.

My first hands-on play was at age 8. I played John the Baptist with my family. I remember a recording we did of it and how when John the Baptist’s head was cut off, it had to be placed on a platter. I remember my eldest sister, Meka positioning my head on a glass tray while I closed my eyes pretending to be dead. Fact is, I couldn’t keep my eyelids still, so it wasn’t that effective, but I got the point across. That moment planted a seed in me and prepared me for the love I have for the arts today.

I’ve always been a movie junkie. Among my favorites are: Bloodsport with Jean Claude Van Damme, Nutty Professor with Eddie Murphy, Friday with Chris Tucker, Rush Hour, Madea’s Family Reunion & Big Happy Family with Tyler Perry.

I began auditioning for plays. I was in Meka’s production of “Sight Chronicles, Man’s Transformation from Darkness to Light,” a stage play. There, I learned how to conduct myself on stage. I had a gift of impressions, so she allowed me to record a song sounding similar to Lil’ Wayne. No one knew it was me singing until I told them. It was there that I learned I possessed a lot of gifts and from then on I branched to writing my own plays, movies, and composing my own songs.

I pride myself on being a great example to my peers. At Morgan Support Services I have served as the President twice. As President, it was my job to provide ideas for other people in the program. I’ve always had the loving support of my family, especially when it comes to the arts.

My mother passed away when I was 3 months old, so I never got the chance to get to know her. However, I know she would be proud of who I am today and smiles down upon me. I know that she and God are watching over me on this journey.
