Gaia Aloisi is a music composer whose work spans a variety of musical genres, from contemporary music to music theatre. After completing her initial musical training in her hometown, Gaia pursued advanced studies in composition and performance across Europe. She earned a Bachelor of Arts at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva (HEM), followed by a Master of Advanced Studies in Contemporary Music Performance and Interpretation at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana. Gaia then achieved a Master’s Degree in Composition from the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan, studying with Alessandro Solbiati, and a High Specialisation Diploma at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Ivan Fedele. In June 2024 she obtained a Postgraduate Course in Composition with Clara Iannotta at the MDW – University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Her compositions have gained international recognition, winning several prestigious composition competitions. Gaia’s works have been commissioned and performed at renowned festivals and events worldwide, including the Wettbewerb für zeitgenössische Musik in Zurich, LuganoMusica 2023, Mixtur Festival 2022 and Barcelona Modern Festival 2023, the International Low Flutes Festival in Washington DC, Festival Pontino di Musica, and the Festival SpazioMusica in Cagliari. Other notable performances include those at the RED NOTE New Music Festival 2024 in Illinois, Festival Expresiones Contemporáneas in Morelia (Mexico), Milano Piano City and many others.
Gaia's collaborations feature diverse artists and ensembles all over the world, and her compositions have been commissioned and performed by many conductors. In 2024, her first opera Aqua Tofana was premiered at the Tête à Tête Opera Festival in London.
In addition to her compositional achievements, Gaia is an active researcher in the field of music, having worked as a research assistant at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva in 2021. Her artistic practice is diverse, ranging from music theatre and experimental sound creation to research on historical compositional techniques and the analysis of oral music traditions.
