Gaia Veenis

San Francisco, California, USA

Gaia Patience Veenis is a California native, born and raised in Sonoma County and a San Diego beach bum for the better part of eight years. She is currently completing her MFA in Creative Writing at San Francisco State University, where she has served as a First Year Composition Instructor, English Tutor, and Assistant Fiction Editor for Fourteen Hills: The SFSU Review.

Who would have thought Gaia would end up here? Not many. She certainly didn't think she'd be the college type as an aimless punk kid struggling to survive the '90s, but all that changed. After studying journalism and English at San Diego State University and being published as a news-writer in papers and magazines such as San Diego CityBeat, she got sidetracked for a few years with a full-time marketing job. But thanks to the downturn in the economy, Gaia is skipping down an entirely new path and there's no turning back now. She’s working on a novel, and her stories can be found in the online journals Toad, Airplane Reading and The Bicycle Review, and The VelRo Reader 2.

When she’s not writing fiction and creative nonfiction she enjoys traveling around the world and sleeping on strangers’ couches.
