We live in a finite world--in other words, in a world with limits. Most people don't understand limits and how they might affect us. I write about these limits, especially as they affect energy and the economy, on my website OurFiniteWorld.com.
My background is as a casualty actuary. In that role, I helped insurance companies with forecasting many things, such as premiums, claim amounts, investment income, and impacts of tort reforms.
I discovered in 2005 that the world seemed to have a problem with oil limits. I started working on this issue, and in 2007, left insurance consulting to work full time on the issue. I discovered that the way oil limits "work" is quite different from what most people expect--they act by squeezing the world economy, creating recession and other problems. Low oil prices can be as much of a problem as high oil prices.
When I am not writing posts, I am doing other related activities, such as speaking to groups, writing and reviewing academic articles, and responding to comments on OurFiniteWorld.
I am a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and have a M. S. Degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
