Atlanta, Georgia

I am an attorney by trade and an entrepreneur at heart. After graduating from Emory Law School, I worked at a large litigation firm in Washington D.C. for four years. I decided to return to Atlanta but made sure to take several months to backpack around Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand first. Having been born in Canada and studied abroad in England, I am definitely a travel junkie. The next leg of my legal career was at Arnall Golden Gregory in Atlanta, where I worked as a business litigation associate for four years. During this time, I helped open a nightclub in Midtown called Sutra Lounge. I assisted with marketing and promotions and the club became one of the most successful small venues in Atlanta history.

About a year later, the opportunity to open The Nook, on Piedmont Park came about so I quit my law job and jumped in. When we opened in March 2009, the economy was terrible so I built the business with virtually no marketing budget by utilizing social media, creating unique events/parties, and employing creative marketing and promotion ideas. The Nook quickly developed a reputation for a fun atmosphere with interesting food and drinks. Perhaps my most famous creation is "Totchos" (like Nachos but made with tater tots and various toppings) along with various award winning stuffed burgers (we won The Battle of the Burgers 3 years in a row). I sold my stake in The Nook in September 2013.

During my time at The Nook, I wanted to maintain my legal chops and so began working part time at Troutman Sanders in its eMerge division, which provides e-discovery services. I am presently a Senior Staff Attorney and the group's expert on attorney-client privilege issues. After selling The Nook, I launched an internet start-up called Social Save, LLC. We created a website and phone app that allowed social businesses and their potential customers to discover, post and share specials on drinks, food and fun. I am presently developing some new business concepts in line with my motto - "Work Hard, Play Harder" - so stay tuned!
