Enrique Gallego Colon

I am fascinated in understanding the biology of cardiovascular diseases (atherosclerosis, stroke, immunity) leading to myocardial infarction. I am interested in the development of cardiovascular therapies that can potentially lead to functional regeneration of the damaged myocardium after Heart Attack. For that reason, I devoted my life to Science. First, I studied Biology, at the University of Barcelona (Spain), followed by a Msc. Biotechnology at the University autonomous of Madrid (Spain). Both degrees provided me with a solid background on the complexity of life and how is engineered. Later, I completed my scientific education with a PhD (Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher, EU-FP7) at the Imperial College London o myocardial infarction. But that was not enough, I decided to study medicine to round up all that knowledge in order to fulfil my dream.On my free time, I enjoy Sci-Fi, astronomy and piano. In fact, one day I want to apply to the European Astronaut Corps. Although I wrote my own path, I followed the example of other astronauts such as Kjell N. Lindgren, Robert Satcher and Jonny Kim.
