I have always loved soccer. Ever since I was young, I have looked forward to training during the week, playing games on the weekends, and watching soccer with my dad and brother. Unlike most soccer players, my involvement in the game extended beyond just playing and watching. In high school, I volunteered for TOPSoccer (a program that helps disabled children play soccer) and refereed soccer games across Pennsylvania. I am captivated by the sport, and I was devastated once the Coronavirus took my soccer life away from me. I was still able to play FIFA (a soccer video game) and play soccer with my family, but I was unable to play with my team and watch soccer as everything had shut down. I recognized that I needed a new activity to fill the void. I had always been fascinated with music, but I had never learned to play an instrument, something I deeply regretted. One day during quarantine I lay watching Tiger King on Netflix, incredibly bored and wishing I had something more productive to do. It was at this moment that I noticed my brother’s old guitar, untouched for years, waiting to be played again. I picked it up and instantly fell in love with the instrument, I dedicated hours a day to learning to play new songs and improving my skills. Through Youtube and other websites, I slowly became more and more talented. Even when soccer resumed, and I got a summer job, I still made sure to set aside time daily so that I could play guitar. I am glad that I made the most of an unfortunate circumstance and learned to play guitar, a hobby which is very important to me and has become a big part of who I am.
