I reckon there's value in all lifeforms,
in the snow, the strawberry, the fly.

I reckon there's value in the Mineral Kingdom,
in the assembly of stars.

I reckon there's value in wine, until the supper lasts, in the reflexive smile, in the fatigue of those who didn't spare themselves, in two elderly people in love.

I reckon there's value in what will be worthless tomorrow, and in what is still nearly worthless today.

I reckon there's value in each wound.

I reckon there's value in saving water, in fixing a pair of shoes, in being silent just at the right time, in coming to help upon hearing a scream, in asking for permission before seating, in being grateful without recalling why.

I reckon there's value in knowing the True North in a room,
in knowning the name of the wind that's drying your linens.
I reckon there's value in the trip of the drifter,
in the reclusiveness of the nun,
in the patience of the dead man walking, whatever his sin.
I reckon there's value in the verb "to love"
and in the hypothesis of the existence of a Maker.
Of these, many I have never known.
