Esmeralda Garcia

My name is Esmeralda Garcia this summer is my third semester at NCCU. I am a student, employee, and a mother. I am working hard while trying to change my life by going back to school. I am a non-traditional student attending school to learn and get an education and I am motivated by the opportunity to enhance my own confidence and leadership abilities, creating new opportunities for my family, touching the lives of those I work with, and contributing to society in a meaningful way.

As a non-traditional student I understand the importance of education and what it can bring to my life. It brings confidence, to be part of society, and to be a leader rather than a follower. I will not just change my life but also my family’s. I have gained respect for the process of learning and will share that with my children. I am working towards a Nursing degree not only to help my own situation, but also to help the situation of other families. I am a caring person I am pursuing a profession where I can help those who are suffering to improve their health. In addition to individuals, I recognize that the field of health care is changing and I want to be part of it. In particular, I hope to improve access to health services for many people who have been denied in the past. By focusing on the things I value most, my family, hard work, and education, I believe that I will be successful in my future role as a Nurse in the field of health care.
