Karina Garcia

Hello! My name is Karina Garcia. I was born and raised in the Southside of Chicago. I am currently a student at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois as an Elementary Education Major.

Teaching young minds became a passion of mine when I was in the seventh grade at Brighton Park Elementary. Growing up in a school of need where children hate learning and are only interested in gang-related activity, encouraged me to reach out to children in those neighborhoods. It has made me want to inspire those with that mindset to become something bigger, what they are truly capable of being. I never let my environment influence me to not get an education and reach my goals and I want to motivate children to do the same! I want to be able to build relationships through teaching with my future students and display a safe environment for them to enjoy.

With the help of Northern Illinois University's Education program and the Golden Apple Foundation I am looking forward to succeed in becoming an educator for our youth. :)
