In my work life, I have attained a level of professionalism usually held by people much older than me in the main field I’ve worked in, the automotive industry. I have worked as a service advisor and a service manager running a shop and small staff on my own. I have been the youngest person in my profession at all of the places I’ve worked. I have met or exceeded the expectations of those around me.
I started bartending to attend school full time. I was hired as a barback at “Earls on the Ave”, working Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Since then I have worked my way to head bartender at an establishment called Prost, a great neighborhood bar in Seattle.
In the field of Communications, I have also excelled in the working world. While attending college I was able to secure two internships at Clear Channel radio station 950 KJR, working on production for a four hour afternoon drive time program. During the second internship I began working more directly and in depth in the radio broadcast side of the station.
I have also found a way to personally express myself through dance. I have been learning and teaching break dancing for nearly six years now. I have taught classes at the ASUW Experimental College and been active in University of Washington’s Hip Hop Student Association. I have competed both locally and internationally and train regularly. Dancing has been a huge outlet for me for growth and personal expression. The discipline and training required have carried over to my life and studies, improving my ability to focus. I have gained self-confidence dancing in front of an audience. Two summers ago I was part of a group that was hired to dance in public parks around Seattle. This was a volunteer job but an opportunity for us to share what we had learned with others, maybe inspiring them to express themselves in dance. It was a very gratifying experience..
