There has always been something so enticing about what's beyond the water's edge. Whether it is the possibility of discovery or the endless knowledge of the ocean that peaks my interest, I do not know. What I do know is that I could spend a lifetime exploring what lies beneath the surface and still I would not be satisfied. I guess my obsession started during our summer beach trips to the gulf. While my little brother and cousins competed in building the most indestructible sand, I was swimming around with my goggles and net trying to catch and identify fish. My curiosity only grew as I got into fishing. I distinctly remember one day, almost nothing was biting and the sun bouncing off the water made sitting on the boat almost unbearable. Suddenly, the line peeled away from the reel at record speeds, and in the distance a sailfish sprang from the water, breaking the horizon. Needless to say, from there on out, I was hooked. Blue planet became my favorite T.V. show and subnautica, my favorite video game. Currently, I am majoring in both biology and ecology at the University of Georgia. I hope one day to get involved with marine conservation efforts and work with the animals that call our oceans home. Rain or shine, night or day, I am always looking for a way to get my feet wet.
