My name is Hayes Perry and I am currently a student enrolled at the University of Georgia. No, my name is not Garrett Stover, and I am not studying in New York City. This misconception is merely a glimpse into my mind and an ingredient of my passion for photography. Not exactly deceit, rather, misdirection. Capturing moments through the scope of a manipulated lens magnifies the beauty of photography, and is a skill I have enjoyed employing. I began snapping pictures in ninth grade when I served on the yearbook editing team. I took candid photos for senior superlatives and captured the most intense moments of the baseball team's contests. My temporary seasonal pastime quickly evolved into an enthusiasm. Taking pictures induced such an excitement that not even my favorite sports or books could contend. Photography consumed me, and I earned a promotion as the head photographer for the school yearbook council. I managed to gather some spare change and buy my first camera, the Fujifilm Instax Mini 40, which was a subpar instrument for my aspirations, but very appropriate for my budget. After two years of steady photography, a friend and I decided to begin a school instagram page which would feature the pictures taken at school events and sports games. While competing in both fall and spring sports consumed a heavy portion of my time, I contributed with my camera the best I could. The instagram page was proportionally a success with respect to my graduating class of 42, but the follower count was the least of our concerns. We simply appreciated and continued to take advantage of the opportunity at hand. After graduation, my camera became somewhat of an afterthought, as well as photography in general. I am enjoying looking at this season of life through a different lens, but hopefully will find myself behind a camera soon. As I revive my writing career, I hope to use my passion of photography to explore the unique layers of literature from all different angles.
