GARTH MEINTJES

Garth Meintjes is the Executive Director at the International Senior Lawyers Project. ISLP provides the pro bono services of highly skilled and experienced lawyers to promote human rights, equitable and sustainable economic development and the rule of law worldwide. It assists governments, non-governmental organisations and other institutions working to build legal capacity and to advance the rights and well-being of their people.

Before joining the ISLP, he served as the International Legal Foundation's Chief Operating Officer, which he joined after the JEHT Foundation's sudden closing. As a Senior Program Manager at JEHT, he oversaw the foundation's portfolio of international justice grants. Previously, he was Associate Director at the Center for Civil and Human Rights at the Notre Dame Law School, where he wrote and taught in the areas of international law and human rights, particularly accountability for gross violations of human rights, and human rights practice. A South Africa lawyer, he received his B.A. from the University of Stellenbosch and an LL.B. from the University of Cape Town. While teaching constitutional law and criminal law at the University of the Western Cape, he received a scholarship to study international human rights at the University of Notre Dame, where he received his LL.M. and J.S.D. degrees, summa cum laude.
