Gary Oak

Cinnabar Island, Kanto

I was born in a Viridian City hospital on January 8th, 1980 to my parents David and Linda Oak, who lived in Pallet Town. My dad had recently lost his job as an engineer at Silph. Co and my parents couldn't afford to take care of me, so they left me at my older sister, Daisy's door, with a note attached that detailed why they couldn't take care of me and that my name was Gary. She and her boyfriend Mike had lots of money from Mike's success in the Celadon Stock Exchange and were able to raise me well. They taught me all the principles I follow, kept me fed, and helped me through hard times. On my 6th birthday, they got me my first Pokémon, a Magnemite which I nicknamed, "Cyclops." One day I was playing with Cyclops when he ran far away and I had to chase him. While I was chasing him, I ran head first into another kid. We both fell down, and he was crying. I asked him what his name was and he said, "My name's Ash Ketchum." Ash and I started to hang out frequently after that and became best friends. When I was eight, Mike and Daisy informed me that my parents, who had moved to Lavaridge Town, had died in a tragic car accident on vacation to the Orange Islands. I took this really hard, but it changed me as a person. I started to realize that I have a responsibility and a destiny of which I need to fulfill. On my 10th birthday was when I became an official Pokémon trainer. I went to my grandpa Samuel Oak's laboratory to receive my starting Pokémon for my adventure ahead. I walked in and my grandpa greeted me, before pointing out three Pokéballs on a table. He released all three Pokémon onto the table and introduced all three to me, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. He described all of them to me before stating, "The early bird gets the worm... or in this case, the Pokémon. You get first pick!" I stared at each of them contently before choosing Squirtle. I nicknamed the Squirtle, "Shellshock." My grandpa then gave me a Pokédex and said, "Use this to record data on Pokémon for me!" On my journey, I battled many trainers, including my friend Ash, got many gym badges, and captured lots of Pokémon. After a year on my journey, I decided to take on the Indigo League challenge, and became champion. After only days, I was defeated by my friend Ash. I took this as a learning experience, and began to better myself as a trainer and person. I have since then, studied at Elite Pokémon University, opened my own lab, and have been voted the President of E.P.U.
