Gary Steel

Auckland, New Zealand.

RIGHT NOW: Co-own, edit and contribute to two webzines - technology and music site for grown-ups, www.witchdoctor.co.nz, and the most useful and thought-provoking wellbeing portal, www.doctorfeelgood.co.nz.

Can also be seen lurking on the pages of Metro, Auckland's city culture magazine, in my regular music column, and a miscellany of other periodicals.

BACK THEN: After graduating from journalism school, I worked as a sub-editor and music/culture writer for Wellington's Evening Post, ran my own independent fortnightly arts and entertainment magazine, pumped out entertainment stories for TVNZ Publicity, and presided over NZ's most successful pop culture magazine, RTR Countdown, for six years; further journalism adventures ensued during my six-year stint at gadget magazine Tone. My back pages also include extensive freelance work for the NZ Listener, Sunday Star Times, and many other publications. In addition, I have edited two books, subbed/proofed several others, hosted my own radio show on bFM, and featured on TV One's Breakfast as 'Gaz the gadget guru'. Once upon a time, I also ran a music space-cum-venue, Beautiful Music.

I LOVE: Music, movies, gadgetry, intelligent media, delectable vegetarian morsels, animals (not for food), more, more, more...

[Thanks to Jane Ussher for the wonderful photo of my favourite chook.]
