Gary Beman
Extremely passionate about life and music.
After surviving childhood and being denied a music education I helped my brothers in their construction businesses learning mostly about fabrication and fitting (and mechanics). I returned to computer programming (which I learnt in 1981 aged just 12) and developed bespoke database systems. I loved doing this as I could really bury myself in creative work. It was during this time that I had to learn accounting. The first thing I learnt about accounting, it was easier and paid more money! I am now a part qualified CIMA management accountant working as a Financial Director for a small web development agency based in Leamington Spa, UK.
Oh yes, music, I taught myself piano, guitar, as well as lessons at school in drums, steel drums, and french horn. My first band was called Heavy Kettle and Swollen Lips (I played the teapot and hosepipe). I played drums, guitar and keyboards in other bands until I eventually discovered singing. If you can talk, you can sing. Although initially my friends would laugh at my attempts to sing, since singing in choirs since 1990 and having a few lessons, I now sing in 4 choirs, run my own choir, and teach beginners (particularly those who think they can't sing).
I am not singing because I am happy, I am happy because I sing.
