As a conductor with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Minot, North Dakota, Gary Garbrandt is responsible for the safety of passengers and bystanders. Prior to departure, he inspects all equipment and ensures that the train operates in compliance with signals and regulations. In addition to utilizing a remote control device to operate locomotive equipment, Gary Garbrandt instructs crews to connect cars, make necessary repairs, and operate switches.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Garbrandt was a company first sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. Before being honorably discharged as E-8, he spent 20 years in positions such as facilities chief, family readiness officer, career counselor, company recruiter, and senior drill instructor. Among his numerous responsibilities was direction of Marine Security Guard detachments, in which role he organized armed internal security for American embassies in Jordan and United Arab Emirates.

Gary Garbrandt is a member of the National Rifle Association and donates regularly to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In his free time, he enjoys watching Ohio State Buckeyes football games.
