Gary
As quality improvement director of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Gary Grindley leverages years of executive experience in quality management to develop and oversee clinical quality improvement projects and medical safety initiatives. An ASQ-certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, he assists in the development of organizational improvement goals as the hospital seeks to become one of the safest in the United States. As part of his work, Gary Grindley leads Six Sigma projects and directs clinical quality improvement studies that focus on reducing readmissions, managing chronic disease, coordinating patient care, and relying on evidence-based medicine. Mr. Grindley recently authored “Improvements to Clinical Documentation for Maximizing Medicare and Medicaid Reimbursements for Legitimate Billable Events” as a case study for the Kaiser Permanente Foundation. Before taking his position at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Gary Grindley contributed his expertise to such companies as Johnson Controls Automotive Interiors Group, John Deere Power Systems, G2 Engineering, Case New Holland, and McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. In his roles at these firms, he trained senior management, developed and improved operations and systems, and headed major organizational overhauls that resulted in quality improvements and expanded productivity and profitability. Gary Grindley holds a bachelor of science in engineering from California State University, Los Angeles and a master of science in statistics and quality assurance from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Additionally, he received an MBA from Loyola University Chicago. Gary Grindley is a longtime member of the American Society for Quality and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, as well as belonging to the National Patient Safety Foundation and the National Association for Healthcare Quality.
