Gary Marino
Entrepreneur in Regional and Short Line Railroads in Boca Raton, Florida
Since the 1980s, Gary Marino has focused on the acquisition and development of regional and short line railroads. He currently serves as the chairman and CEO of International Rail Partners LLC, which seeks out railroad purchase opportunities across the world. To date, Gary Marino has facilitated the acquisition of railroads across six countries, including Australia, Canada, Chile, Mexico, and the United States.
Mr. Marino also stands out as the founder of Patriot Rail Corp., which began its acquisition activity with the Tennessee Southern Railroad, a historic 118-mile railway with interchange ties to CSX and inland barge traffic. Gary Marino went on to facilitate the purchase of the Louisiana and North West Railroad and the six short line railroads of Weyerhaeuser Company. The latter transaction, the largest in Patriot Rail’s history, brought its total number of short line holdings to 13.
Mr. Marino created Patriot Rail Corp. having served for 20 years as the Chairman, President and CEO of RailAmerica, which he had co-founded. In his capacity, he facilitated its acquisitions and listed its initial public offering (IPO) in 1992. This was followed when in 2002 he arranged for the Company’s stock to be listed on the NYSE and on the day of listing, he rang the bell that started the trading day on the New York Stock Exchange.
