Gary Clarke

CFO in USA

I've spent my career at the intersection of technology, finance, and company building.

I began in Army Special Operations, where I learned that leadership is ultimately about making decisions with incomplete information, executing under pressure, and taking responsibility for outcomes. Those lessons have shaped every role I've held since.

Over the past three decades, I've served as a founder, CEO, CFO, operator, and board advisor across software, AI, genomics, clean energy, logistics, and enterprise technology. I've helped launch new ventures, scale operating businesses, raise capital, build financial infrastructure, execute acquisitions, and prepare companies for major strategic events.

Early in my career, I worked alongside some of the pioneers of the commercial internet, including Spry, Netscape, and Amazon. At Amazon, I helped build and scale the Kindle periodicals business during a period of rapid growth and transformation. Later, I worked with Dr. Stephen Wolfram and the team that launched Wolfram|Alpha, one of the earliest large-scale computational intelligence platforms.

I founded Trelar Logistics, a vocational trucking marketplace that was acquired by HaulHub in 2020. Earlier, as President and CEO of Hy9 Corporation, I led the development and commercialization of hydrogen fuel-cell technology and helped position the company for a successful exit.

Throughout my career, I've worked with venture-backed startups, growth-stage companies, and corporate ventures across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. I've helped leadership teams raise capital, refine business models, improve operating performance, and build organizations capable of scaling.

What interests me most is helping companies navigate inflection points—those moments when strategy, capital, operations, and execution must align. Whether the challenge is growth, profitability, transformation, fundraising, acquisition, or preparing for the public markets, I enjoy helping leaders turn complexity into action.

I hold a PMD from Harvard Business School and a BS from the College of Charleston.

Outside of work, you'll usually find me working in my citrus grove, rescuing dogs, exploring the desert, or occasionally dealing with rattlesnakes.
