Gary is the Manager for the IT and AV Service Desk at UBC Arts Instructional Support and Informational Technology (ISIT). With UBC Arts ISIT, he leads a service desk, handles technical management, IT operations management, and application management. Gary’s passion for new technology and team management has led him to back to UBC four year ago. Gary is no stranger to UBC - he began as a student back in 2005 studying Psychology and Computer Science and during that time, he also worked as a student staff member providing IT support for the Faculty of Arts. Now he has come full circle back to Arts, this time as a Manager in Arts ISIT. Being a techie from the start, Gary’s early experience in computer sales at Best Buy developed his skills in providing excellent service and working with new technology.
To this day, Gary continues to find new ways to keep up on the latest technological trends in order to better support his work. Recently, he acquired the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) certificate. As a CASP-certified IT professional, Gary is prepared to provide the best cybersecurity solutions and protection for his unit and UBC at large.
When Gary is not keeping up with IT security, you will find him mastering another new hobby. After teaching himself to fix cars with the tools he could get his hands on, he moved onto photography, and now he’s onto mastering cooking using the cool new kitchen gadget, Anova. Whether it be in his hobbies or career, Gary’s drive for being great at what he does pushes him tackle any new challenges head on.
