An architect by profession, a pragmatic socialist at heart! With a view of using design as a tool to enhance living conditions, I believe it is essential in today's world to consider the 'hybrid' use of design to cater to multiple uses and users over time - designs should adapt to changing needs and be evolutionary over time. These principles pervade how I approach design problems – from restaurant spaces which can adapt to changing user groups, to foldable exhibition sets which can be reused, from using slum roofs to grow vegetables, to looking at adaptive reuse of our vibrant pilgrim towns and cities. It is an interesting challenge to test these ideas with clients and thinkers, since it cross breeds the utopian ideals learnt in design school with the real world of commerce and practicality. Today, design is influenced by economics, social issues and technology, which I try to embrace within projects, pedagogies and products.
