Marine Turtle Biologist and Conservation Advocate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Hello, I'm Gavin Jolis, a dedicated marine biologist from Sabah, Malaysia, with a deep-seated passion for marine turtle conservation. Having grown up in the rich and diverse environment of Sabah, my connection with the ocean and its inhabitants runs deep. My journey in marine biology, especially in marine turtle conservation, is not just a profession but a lifelong commitment to preserving these magnificent creatures and their habitats.
My Work:
My focus has always been on the conservation of marine turtles, particularly in the Tun Mustapha Park (TMP). Here, I work closely with local communities, integrating their knowledge and practices into sustainable conservation strategies. My research explores the delicate balance between human activity and marine life preservation, emphasizing the importance of community-driven conservation efforts.
Advocacy and Engagement:
I believe that conservation is a collective effort, and engaging communities is key to successful environmental stewardship. I am actively involved in educating and collaborating with local schools and groups to spread awareness about marine conservation. Representing Sabah in international symposiums and forums, I aim to bring our unique challenges and successes to the global stage, advocating for locally-led initiatives that can make a real difference.
My Vision:
My goal is to bridge the gap between scientific research and on-the-ground conservation. I am committed to enhancing Sabah's role in global conservation efforts and demonstrating how community-led initiatives can serve as a blueprint for marine conservation worldwide.
