Gavin Stern is a national digital producer for the Scripps national desk. He produces news for the more than 30 TV and newspaper sites of The E.W. Scripps Company.
A native of New York, Stern grew up in metro Detroit and West Palm Beach, Florida.
Stern got his science chops at the University of Michigan (B.S. '08), where he studied the brain and wrote for the Michigan Daily.
After a couple of years in medical school, Stern took up science journalism at Stony Brook University in New York (M.S. '13). He also has a public health degree from New York Medical College (M.P.H. '13).
Stern's first paycheck in journalism was in small town Alaska, where he wrote for The Seward Journal. He interned at Newsday during the 2012 presidential election and Superstorm Sandy.
From 2013-14, Stern worked at the Scripps Washington Bureau as a multimedia fellow with the Scripps Howard Foundation.
He's a rabid Wolverine football fan.
