Brian Carpenter

Hacker in the United States

I like to think of myself as a sheepdog, protecting the flock from the wolves.

I'm a freelance security and malware researcher and amateur exploit developer. I started this journey in the late 80s. It started out just for learning. Then for the lulz. And now it pays the bills. I've been listed on Google's Security Hall of Famemultiple times for finding various security bugs on Google web properties. I found a pretty serious security bug in a pre-release version of Firefox 4, and most recently have been credited with the following:

PHP5 - CVE-2014-9427
pngcrush - CVE-2015-2158
OpenSSL - CVE-2016-2109,CVE-2015-0208andCVE-2015-0288

I've also found and helped resolve ~100 bugs in Perl5 including multiple null ptr derefs. My fav. ;)
